I've been trying and spectacularly failing at National Novel Writing Month since 2004. Each year, I have progressively less inspiration as to what to write, and over the past few years I haven't even tried to write fiction
at all in the off-season, even though it used to be something I loved to do.
This year, I was convinced the writer in me was unquestionably dead. I haven't had a new idea since 2006, and only one or two in the years before that, none of which got past a few thousand words because they all went nowhere fast. There was NOTHING in me to write. Not even half a thought that could be fleshed out into a plot-like shape.
And then today I started putting words on a paper anyway and have a stronger plot forming than I ever did on any of the years when I started with
some semblance of ideas and optimism.
I may still lack the discipline to win, but I think I'll get further this year than in the past fours years combined! I don't know what happened!
